What does the player do with the used instruction card (after they have played it)? Keep it? Return it to the pile and chose another one to keep an on-going set of 4 instruction cards?

The player never hands over an instruction card. They merely show the card to the other players .

Don’t be surprised if eventually players don’t even bother with showing the card and instead just say what command they want to play – this is fine as it’s about teaching the children computational thinking and understanding breaking problems down to individual steps. Having the cards in front of the players just helps them to start thinking in steps (visual tools).
